L-Carnitine and Curcumin in Slimqa: What They Are

Slimqa Slim Coffee Booster box and stick

L-carnitine and curcumin are two of the five key ingredients in Slimqa Slim Coffee Booster. Here is what they are, where they appear in food and what the label says to watch.

Two more names on the Slimqa Slim Coffee Booster label are L-carnitine and curcumin. One is an amino acid compound the body makes and food supplies, the other a colourful compound from turmeric. This guide covers what each one is, where it appears in everyday eating, how much a stick provides and what the cautions are. The product overview is on the Slimqa home page.

The amounts in one stick

IngredientSource or formPer stick (2 g)
L-carnitineAmino acid compound300 mg
CurcuminTurmeric extract, 95% curcuminoids100 mg

Black pepper extract is added to the stick as well. The label lists these amounts, and we describe them without making any health claims.

What is L-carnitine?

L-carnitine is a compound made from amino acids, the building blocks of protein. Your body produces some of it itself, mainly in the liver and kidneys, and the rest of what you take in comes from food. Because of that, it is not an exotic substance, and it is a normal part of how the body works.

The name is a clue to where it was first found. "Carnitine" comes from the Latin word for meat, carnis, because it was first identified in meat extracts.

Where do you find L-carnitine in food?

Animal foods are the richest everyday sources, which is why this ingredient is easy to relate to a typical Australian plate:

Plant foods contain only small amounts, so people who eat a lot of plant-based meals take in less from food. If you follow a plant-based diet and want to know more about the source of an ingredient, the manufacturer is the best person to ask.

Each stick provides 300 mg of L-carnitine. On the label it appears as the plain ingredient and amount. We give no claim about what it does in the body.

What is curcumin?

Curcumin is the main curcuminoid in turmeric, the bright yellow-orange root of Curcuma longa, a plant of the ginger family. Curcuminoids are the compounds that give turmeric its colour. If you have ever stained a chopping board or a plastic container yellow after cooking a curry, you have met them.

The Slimqa label states 100 mg of curcumin per stick, from a turmeric extract that is 95% curcuminoids. In plain terms, that means the extract has been concentrated so that nearly all of it is the curcuminoid group, rather than the whole ground spice.

Turmeric in an Australian kitchen

Turmeric has become a pantry staple here. It turns up in curries, dahl, rice dishes, soups and stir-fries, and the cafe menu often lists a turmeric latte, sometimes called golden milk. Fresh turmeric root is sold in many supermarkets and greengrocers.

It helps to be clear that a pinch in a pot of dahl is a very different amount from a concentrated 100 mg extract. A food-sized portion of turmeric contains only a small amount of curcumin, because most of the spice is other plant material. That is why a food and a supplement are treated differently on the label, and why the stick carries a caution that a spoonful of spice does not.

Why is black pepper extract in the stick?

The label lists black pepper extract among the other ingredients, next to inulin (a fibre from chicory root), natural flavour and stevia leaf extract. Pepper and turmeric are a classic pairing in the kitchen, and black pepper is a common ingredient alongside turmeric in many products. We only report what is listed: it is part of the formula, in the other-ingredients section.

Cautions you should know about

These matter more for curcumin than for L-carnitine, and they come straight from the manufacturer's label:

It is also worth remembering the stick contains 120 mg of caffeine. The safety and suitability guide explains how to count it against the rest of your day.

How the two fit with the other ingredients

L-carnitine and curcumin share the stick with chromium, caffeine and green coffee extract. The first two are described in the chromium and caffeine guide, and the plant extract is explained in the green coffee extract guide. For all five in one table, plus the other ingredients, see the ingredients guide.

Taking the stick

Take one stick a day, stirred into coffee or water, ideally with a meal. Turmeric extract has a mild earthy note, and the natural flavour and stevia leaf extract in the stick are there to round out the taste. Whether you notice it in a strong flat white or an iced coffee is a matter of personal taste. Practical tips are in the how to take Slimqa guide.

Why we describe, not promise

You will notice this page says what each ingredient is, where it is found and how much is in a stick. It does not promise a particular result. Ingredients are talked about everywhere online, and the claims can run well ahead of the evidence, so we keep to the label. If you want to go deeper, a GP, dietitian or pharmacist can talk through what fits your own situation, and the label gives them a clear list to work from.

Quick summary

Both ingredients are easy to read about once you know the basics, and the label gives you the figures you need.
