Green Coffee Extract in Slimqa Slim Coffee Booster, Explained

Slimqa Slim Coffee Booster box and stick

Green coffee extract sounds like a mystery ingredient, but it starts with something every Canadian kitchen knows: the coffee bean, before it meets the roaster. This guide explains what it is, where it comes from and how much is in each Slimqa stick.

Green coffee extract is one of five key ingredients in Slimqa Slim Coffee Booster. Like the rest of this site, this page describes it plainly and makes no health promises. You can find the product itself on the Slimqa home page.

What is green coffee?

Green coffee simply means coffee beans that have not been roasted. A coffee bean is the seed of the coffee plant. After it is picked and processed, it is a pale, greyish-green, hard little seed. Roasting turns it brown, develops the familiar smell and flavour, and changes its chemistry. Green beans skip that step.

The label lists the ingredient as green coffee extract (bean), which tells you the part of the plant used is the bean.

Where do green coffee beans come from?

Coffee grows in a warm band around the middle of the planet, in places such as Brazil, Colombia, Vietnam and Ethiopia. Canada's climate does not suit coffee plants, so every bean in a Canadian cup, green or roasted, is imported. The beans are harvested, dried, sorted and shipped. Coffee roasters in Vancouver, Montreal and Halifax then roast most of them, while a smaller share goes to makers of extracts.

What is an extract?

An extract is a concentrated form made by soaking the plant material in a liquid, collecting what dissolves, and drying the result into a powder. It is a bit like making coffee, then removing the water. The benefit for a product like Slimqa is practical: a few milligrams of extract fit neatly into a 2 g stick and dissolve in a cup or a glass.

How much is in one stick?

One stick contains 100 mg of green coffee extract (bean). Next to it in the same stick are 100 mcg of chromium, 120 mg of caffeine, 300 mg of L-carnitine and 100 mg of curcumin. The full table is in the ingredients guide.

ItemAmount per stick (2 g)
Green coffee extract (bean)100 mg
Caffeine120 mg
Chromium (as chromium picolinate)100 mcg
L-carnitine300 mg
Curcumin (95% curcuminoids)100 mg

Green versus roasted: what changes?

Roasting is a big transformation. Here is how the two compare, in plain terms:

The label does not state an amount of chlorogenic acids, so this guide does not give one either. It only explains why green coffee is described the way it is.

Five ingredients, every amount on the label

Discover Slimqa now Dietary supplement. Not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet. Adults only (18+). Contains 120 mg of caffeine per stick.

Is there caffeine in green coffee extract?

Green coffee beans naturally contain caffeine, and an extract can retain some of it. In Slimqa, the label lists caffeine separately at 120 mg per stick, so that is the figure to use when you add up your day. Do not add a second amount for the green coffee extract. The right approach is to take the 120 mg, then add your other sources: the coffee you stir the stick into, the tea after lunch, the cola from the vending machine.

The chromium and caffeine guide goes through the caffeine arithmetic with a few examples, and who Slimqa suits explains the usual daily guidance for adults.

Does the stick taste like green coffee?

Not in a way that surprises most people. The formula includes a natural flavour and stevia leaf extract, and the extract amount is small. If you stir the stick into a hot or iced coffee, the coffee flavour leads. In water it is milder. Our how to take it guide has ideas for both, from a hot mug on a cold January morning to an iced cup in July.

What green coffee extract is not

Who should ask before using it?

The same people who should ask about the product as a whole: anyone under 18, anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding, anyone who takes medication or has a medical condition, and anyone who has been told to avoid caffeine. When in doubt, a pharmacist can help in a few minutes.

A short history of the bean

Every coffee bean begins its life inside a red fruit often called a coffee cherry. After picking, the seed is separated, dried and graded. At that point it is green coffee, and it can sit in a warehouse for months without losing much. Roasters buy it in burlap sacks and roast to order; extract makers dissolve it and dry the liquid. The same raw material, two very different roads.

That is why the word "green" on the label is about processing, not about colour added to a powder or about a vegetable. It points to a bean that has simply skipped the roaster.

How to picture 100 mg

A hundred milligrams is one tenth of a gram, roughly as heavy as a small paperclip or a pinch of coarse salt. The whole stick weighs 2 g, so the extract makes up a small slice of it. The rest of the powder is made up of the other ingredients and the inulin, natural flavour and stevia leaf extract listed on the label. This is a useful reminder that supplements are measured in tiny quantities, and that reading the figure matters more than guessing from the size of the stick.
