Green Coffee Extract in Slimqa: What It Is and Where It Comes From

Slimqa Slim Coffee Booster box of 30 sticks

Green and coffee in the same breath can confuse. Here is what green coffee extract is, how it differs from your usual mug and what the label says about the 100 mg per stick.

Green coffee extract is the ingredient people ask about most when they first read the Slimqa label, mostly because "green" and "coffee" together sound like a contradiction. This guide explains in plain English what it is, how it differs from the coffee in your mug and what the label tells you. Each Slimqa stick contains 100 mg of green coffee extract (bean). For the rest of the formula, the ingredients explained guide has the full table, and the Slimqa home page gives the overview.

What is green coffee?

Coffee beans are the seeds of the coffee plant. Inside the red or yellow fruit, often called the cherry, sits the seed. When the seed is dried and processed but not roasted, it is known as a green coffee bean. It is pale, hard and grassy-smelling, and it looks nothing like the dark, glossy beans in a supermarket bag. Roasting is what turns it brown and gives coffee its familiar smell and taste.

So "green coffee" does not mean a special variety. It means the same seed before roasting. The name on the Slimqa label, green coffee extract (bean), tells you the extract comes from the bean itself.

How is an extract made?

An extract is a concentrated form of a plant material. In general terms, the plant is processed with a solvent such as water or ethanol, the liquid is separated from the solid, and the result is dried into a powder. The advantage of a powder is practical: it is easy to measure and mixes into a drink. A dried extract is far more concentrated than the raw bean, which is why the label can state a dose in milligrams. For Slimqa that dose is 100 mg per stick.

Green versus roasted: what changes?

Roasting is a chemical event as much as a culinary one. Heat changes the make-up of the bean, and the flavours we know as coffee mostly appear during roasting. Green beans contain naturally occurring plant compounds, including a group called chlorogenic acids, and some of these break down during roasting. That is one of the reasons green coffee extract is a different ingredient from a cup of ordinary coffee, even though they come from the same plant.

Does it have a health claim?

No. There is no authorised health claim for green coffee extract in Great Britain or the EU. That is why this guide, like the rest of this site, only tells you what it is, where it comes from and how much is in a stick. The manufacturer's formula includes it alongside chromium, caffeine, L-carnitine and curcumin, and the amount is simply stated on the label. Where a brand makes bolder promises about this ingredient, it is fair to ask what wording they are relying on.

That honest approach is worth keeping in mind. A food supplement can be perfectly good without every ingredient carrying a claim. What matters is that you can see what is in the stick and the dose of each.

Green coffee extract, chromium, caffeine and more in one stick

Discover Slimqa now Food supplement. Not a substitute for a varied, balanced diet. Contains caffeine. Adults only (18+).

What about the caffeine?

Coffee beans naturally contain caffeine, and green beans are no exception. The Slimqa label lists caffeine 120 mg as its own line, separate from the 100 mg of green coffee extract. For planning your day, use that 120 mg figure, and count any other tea, coffee or energy drinks on top. The extract is only part of what goes into the stick, and a small amount of caffeine may travel with it, so there is no need to calculate anything extra. If you are sensitive to caffeine, read our safety and suitability guide and take the stick earlier in the day.

Where it sits in the stick

Per stick of 2 g, the actives are:

Also in the powder are inulin (chicory root fibre), natural flavouring, stevia leaf extract and black pepper extract. The first two help with texture and taste, and stevia gives a light sweetness. Together, the stick is only about 5 kcal.

Tasting notes

Because it is stirred into a drink, the extract is usually not something you notice separately. Your coffee stays your coffee. In hot coffee the powder dissolves with 10 to 15 seconds of stirring, and with water it is a mild, slightly sweet drink. If you prefer an iced coffee, dissolve the stick in a splash of hot coffee or water first, then add the cold liquid and ice. Our how to take it guide has the full method.

Buying tips for any green coffee product

If you compare labels, here is a short checklist worth using:

  1. Does the label state the amount of extract per serving, in mg?
  2. Does it say which part of the plant it comes from? Slimqa says "bean".
  3. Is the caffeine listed separately, so you can count it?
  4. Are the claims limited to authorised wording?
  5. Is there a clear contact for questions?

Who should be careful?

The same rules apply to the whole stick, because of the caffeine. It is for adults aged 18 and over. It is not recommended for pregnant or breastfeeding women. If you take medication or have a medical condition, speak to your GP or pharmacist first. Do not exceed one stick a day, and keep the box out of the reach of young children. Slimqa is a food supplement and does not replace a varied, balanced diet or a healthy lifestyle.

Next steps

If green coffee extract made you curious about the rest of the formula, read about chromium and caffeine, the two actives with authorised wording, and about L-carnitine and curcumin. When you are ready to see the offer, the manufacturer's order page is reached from the Slimqa home page, and price and ordering explains what to check.

Frequently asked questions

What is green coffee extract?

It is a concentrated powder made from coffee beans that have not been roasted. In Slimqa, each stick contains 100 mg of green coffee extract (bean).

Is green coffee the same as the coffee I drink?

It comes from the same plant, but the beans are not roasted. Roasting changes the beans and creates the flavour of ordinary coffee, so green coffee extract is a different ingredient.

Does green coffee extract have an authorised health claim?

No. There is no authorised health claim for it, so this guide only describes what it is and how much is in a stick.

Does it contain caffeine?

Coffee beans naturally contain some caffeine. Slimqa lists 120 mg of caffeine per stick as a separate line, and that is the figure to use when counting your daily total.

Will my coffee taste different?

Most people find the flavour blends into the cup. Stir for 10 to 15 seconds, and for iced coffee dissolve the stick in a little hot liquid first.

Who should avoid Slimqa?

It is not recommended for anyone under 18, or for pregnant and breastfeeding women. If you take medication or have a medical condition, speak to your GP or pharmacist first.
